I learned early that coaching and playing volleyball would always be my big passion.Starting back in 1975 in a 9-player rotation (way back then!) to 2007,sweatin’ and laughin’ with my monday night women’s league,I have always had volleyball in my life.
Being coached BY and most recently, coaching WITH some incredibly dedicated individuals, I have developed my own coaching philosophy and style.I know that creating an atmosphere where a balance of essential volleyball factors is critical. These are the areasI stress as a coach:
1)SKILLSrepetition and perfecting the basics skills are part of every drill I run.It is my job to get young players ready for their next level of play.I believe that game situation and mental tasks should fit into all practices.
2)MANAGEMENTwith a teaching degree behind me, I know the importance of time management and active involvement.I strive for practices with a “no wasted time” flow to them. Both parents and players should get what they pay for!!!
3)FUN!!If I can get my players to sweat and smile at the same time I am doing my job.I want the 11 year old that I am coaching today,to be the same 44 year old hitting the wood tomorrow. This was “given” to me and I will only be satisfied if I can “give it back”!
